120228 - Exodus 13-14 - God's deliverance, accomplished while we stand still

Tuesday SOAP: God commands Israel to remember what freed them, to remember what it means, to declare it to others as God's strong hand, His work in bringing out, His salvation they were helpless to accomplish. The details may be different, but that's very close to the message we still carry forth.

-----------------------------------------------------------

S: And Moses said unto the people, Remember this day, in which ye came out from Egypt, out of the house of bondage; for by strength of hand the LORD brought you out from this place: there shall no leavened bread be eaten. And it shall be for a sign unto thee upon thine hand, and for a memorial between thine eyes, that the LORD'S law may be in thy mouth: for with a strong hand hath the LORD brought thee out of Egypt. And it shall be when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What is this? that thou shalt say unto him, By strength of hand the LORD brought us out from Egypt, from the house of bondage: And it shall be for a token upon thine hand, and for frontlets between thine eyes: for by strength of hand the LORD brought us forth out of Egypt. (Ex 13:3, 9, 14, 16).

And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever. The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace. (Ex 14:13-14).

And Israel saw that great work which the LORD did upon the Egyptians: and the people feared the LORD, and believed the LORD, and his servant Moses. (Ex 14:31).

O: God tells why everything happened the way it did - He wants them to believe Him and know His power.

A: What a picture of salvation - I stand still and see God Himself finish the battle. (Hebrews 12:2) He fights for me, while I just hold my peace. (Galatians 2:16) I believe the LORD, and from henceforth I do in remembrance of Him, (Luke 22:19), while I give testimony of His great salvation. (Psalm 40:9-10)

Like Moses, we only do what God tells us to do. God told him what to say and what to do, so that the people would see that the works were orderly and prophesied (Exodus 14:15-16) and not random. When we act in the obedience of faith, He works, so that people see those works and give glory to God.

P: Father, I praise you for your strength of hand. Although the enemy comes like a flood, you hold my feet firmly in place, and by your grace I stand. From behind the cloud, you see the enemy and you are darkness to him, but light to me.
